C+T Head of Payroll calls for more professional standards

Neil Cameron, our Head of Payroll, appears in Accountancy Daily calling for greater professional standards in payroll.

Payroll has increased in complexity over recent years: 174 pieces of legislation affect payrolls at time of writing. There have also been significant changes to payroll operations through things like Real Time Information, the National Living Wage, Apprenticeship Levy and more. Neil highlights the reputational risk of getting payroll wrong.

Neil suggests that introducing greater professional standards would improve quality and consistency across payroll, while also affording the profession with the respect its complexities demand. This latter point is particularly important given that demand for payroll practitioners outstrips supply, meaning more people need to be encouraged into the profession.
