All hands to the pump at C+T Inverness

Recently I was offered the opportunity to work in C+T’s Inverness office for a few days to assist the team. This opportunity came about due to the considerable amount of work the Inverness team has had to carry out this quarter, and I wanted to help make sure that our high level of service was not compromised. The task was made all the more enjoyable for me thanks to the warm welcome and support I received from the staff in Inverness, as well as the flowing river of earl grey tea to keep me hydrated.

Normally I work in the C+T VAT department, which requires me to complete and submit VAT returns on our client’s behalf as well as assist management with answering any queries clients might have about VAT in general. The task that was put before me in Inverness was quite different. I would be required to carry out a full set of bookkeeping services, including processing quarterly transactions, checking through VAT figures to ensure correctly recorded then preparing VAT return reports ready for partial exemption calculations to be done.  Despite this task initially appearing daunting and considerable, I quickly got to grips with the software and I was able to get up to speed thanks to the support and advice I received from C+T Inverness Director Shona Fraser, as well as the rest of the team.

The two days visiting the Inverness office were hard work but enjoyable and rewarding; I learnt new skills which I will be able to apply to my regular role back in Edinburgh. Skills such as being able to navigate through accounting software, how to accurately process and code a range of invoices, and also retrieving the VAT information and being able to see what transactions make up VAT figures for submission to HMRC. All of these skills will be useful to me back in Edinburgh as we have many clients that require these kind of services, or if I am needed to assist the Inverness team in the future.

I can say without doubt that my visit to Inverness was a success. Not only did I learn a lot and acquire new skills which I will be able to put into practice to assist my team in Edinburgh, but I also received great insight into the amount of work the C+T Inverness office does. They have a great team that works well together and even after only being there for two days, I feel that I was able to integrate well and become part of it. Because of this they are able to work hard to produce amazing results for their clients and offer a full range of services including bookkeeping, VAT returns, accounts, audit, payroll, income tax and corporation tax together with tax, corporate finance and general business advisory.
